Dubai: Dubai Police on Monday showcased their range of luxury patrol vehicles at the Arabian Travel Market currently under way at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The highlight of the show was the unveiling of the Dh11 million Aston Martin One-77, which is set to join the Dubai Police patrol fleet. The police force currently boasts a patrol fleet that includes a Chevrolet Camaro, a BMW 5 series, a Lamborghini Aventador, and a Ferrari FF in addition to the new Aston Martin, a Bentley and a Mercedes SLS.

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, said the luxury sports cars will pressed into security monitoring duties, with the Ferrari FF to be driven by female officers.

The new cars were launched by Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, who visited the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) on Monday.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police, said on Monday that Dubai Police have moved to upgrade their fleet keeping in mind the emirate’s appeal as a global destination.

It is unlikely that the Aston Martin, painted in the green and white colours of the Dubai Police force, will be spotted giving chase to lawbreakers. Instead, it will mostly be dispatched to tourist areas, said Major General Al Mazeina. “Dubai is a classy city and everything must be like Dubai,” he added.

“Dubai is a safe oasis for residents and tourists and we want each and every one to enjoy our city,” he said. There are only 77 Aston Martin One-77s in the world, he added.

He had earlier said that Dubai Police is one of the few police forces in the world to boast such cars in its security patrol service.

The luxury patrol fleet attracted a large number of people who were keen to have their photographs taken next to the cars.

Major General Al Mazeina said the police decided to add more luxury sports cars to their fleet after receiving an amazing reaction from the public when the Lamborghinis on the patrol fleet hit the roads in Downtown Dubai. “Those cars will be used for road security in different areas of Dubai,” he said.
