Ras Al Khaimah: A demand to increase women's monthly expenses at the Reconciliation and Family Guidance Committee at the RAK Courts Department is still the key problem in cases involving disputed couples.

Jasem Mohammad Makki, who heads the committee, said a total of 57 family disputes had been registered with the committee last April, while a total of 205 family disputes have been registered with the committee since the beginning of the year.

He said the current economic conditions and rising prices are the key reasons behind family problems and this has been clear especially since the beginning of this year.

He added that wives have been demanding more money for their household expenses which in turn create problems among the couples who end up at the court for a solution or divorce.

He said some women do not really have any consideration for the financial conditions of their husbands and demand more than their husbands can afford. He said, however, that such problems have been easy to handle and have been resolved by the committee.

He stressed that the involvement of the families of the husbands and wives further complicate domestic problems and make them difficult to resolve.

He said family disputes should be handled by the couples themselves without the involvement of any third party.
