Dubai: Emirati singer Hussain Al Jasmi has released a new song that aims to spread awareness about the destructive effects of drug addiction.

Al Jasmi's new song, titled Yakfi Taabt (Enough, I'm tired) will soon be aired on television after the completion of its video, which was directed by Abdullah Al Thabhani.

The lyrics for the song were written by Emirati poet Gayaheeb, with Al Hassas setting the score.

Although the song is only just beginning to be aired, the singer, writer and composer have all come in for high praise from Dubai Police for their socially relevant work.

Major General Abdul Jalil Mehdi, Director of the General Department to Combat Narcotics, lauded the patriotic spirit of the poet, whose feelings for her nation and concern about the youth had been captured evocatively in the lyrics of the song.

"Gayaheeb urged those taking drugs to quit the habit through her good words and expressive poetry, which can lead them back to living a normal life," Maj. Gen. Mehdi said.

Gayaheeb not only wrote the lyrics but also financed the production of the song out of her sense of social responsibility.

Maj. Gen. Mehdi also praised Al Jasmi for rendering the song, noting that the singer is known for his love of his country and his keenness to protect its security and combat all negative practices that may harm social peace and harmony.

Al Jasmi said his new number is part of his effort to serve the community by spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction.

"This issue is gaining increasing attention, not just because of its psychological and social effects, but because it is inseparable from development issues," he said.

Al Jasmi said he was happy with the opportunity to collaborate with Gayaheeb, who had always tackled social issues in her poetry. He said the song was also satisfying for him as an artist with responsibility towards his community and in his role as a goodwill ambassador.
