Abu Dhabi: Preparations are being made across the capital for the upcoming Eid Al Adha in an effort to ensure everyone enjoys an accident-free holiday.

In light of the high number of accidents that occur during festive occasions Abu Dhabi Police have issued instructions for motorists in addition to setting up their own teams to tackle emergency situations.

As congratulatory messages are sent across mobile phones and social media networks, Brigadier Hussain Ahmad Al Harthi, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, urged drivers to refrain from using their mobile phones or reading text messages. This is because doing so may take their attention off the road.

Parents have also been instructed to keep their children strapped in the back seat. “Parents must not allow their children to get on or stand near dangerous amusement rides. Children should only play games that are age-appropriate,” a police official said in an earlier statement.

The number of patrols will also be intensified on the emirate’s roads and will be placed on stand-by in case of traffic accidents and reckless driving.

“Police and security patrols are ready to intervene when necessary at public gathering locations, especially on beaches, public gardens and parks… Moreover, personnel in the directorate and police stations will be ready to provide assistance when and where necessary as well,” said Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate, in an earlier statement.

Parents have also been advised to keep an eye on their children, especially on beaches where the risk of drowning is ever-present.
