Sharjah: Three Arabian wolf cubs were born at the Arabian Peninsula Centre of the Sharjah Desert Park.

The mother gave birth to three female cubs. This is the second litter to be born at the desert park.

Six cubs were born earlier this year. Wolves give birth to between one to four cubs usually at the end of winter or beginning of spring.

Arabian wolves are found in reserves in Oman, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. They have been extinct in the UAE because destruction of their natural habitat and environmental degradation.

The centre strives to take care of endangered animals through breeding programmes and develop the knowledge on these species.

One can tell the difference between purebred Arabian wolves and cross-breeds by the colour of their eyes.

Purebred Arabian wolves have yellow eyes and cross-bred wolves have brown.

The original habitat of the Arabian wolf is the peninsula where they live in the mountains and rocky and coastal plains.

They are also found in desert areas like the Empty Quarter.
