Dubai:  An Animal Protection Welfare guide has been issued by the Ministry of Environment and Water.

The new guide is a part of a ministry programme to boost levels of biological safety.

The aim is to help protect animals and birds from developing ailments and diseases, which would help protect the quality of our food.

The programme is also designed to spread environmental awareness among the community and those who work with animals.

Sheep

Ministry Agricultural and Animal Wealth Sector CEO Sultan Bin Abdullah Sultan Bin Alwan said the guide, which related to sheep and mutton, was one of a series of guides to be issued by the ministry.

The guides were to correct misconceptions about tending to animals and to increase awareness about animal welfare.

He also said the guide would stress the importance of treating animals well when setting up an animal farm.

Humane

Engineer Mohammad Hassan Al Shamsi, Director of the Animal Wealth Development Department said that the guide outlined the best ways of tending to animals.

Livestock should be treated in a humane manner, which ultimately helped.

While the guide was not a medical handbook, it highlighted incorrect methods of treating animals — which would cause the animals to suffer, and ultimately, their death.
