Dubai: Scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected over the week across the emirates and the dust haze is going to settle down on Tuesday as the north-westerly winds die down, according to the met office.
It rained at Khor Fakkan and in Fujairah on Monday and there are strong chances of rain again between Wednesday and Friday, said a forecaster in Abu Dhabi.
The winds of 15 knots (28 kmp/h) whipped up a dust haze, reducing visibility at the Dubai Airport to 1,500 meters, said duty forecaster Harriet Williams at the Dubai met office.
Road and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai had posted warnings on its electronic signs advising motorists to slow down due to the sandstorm. But the met office said the haze did not qualify as a sandstorm.
Pedestrians were seen covering their mouths and noses with kerchiefs as eddies of sand moved across the roads from the empty lots on the sides.
A marine warning has gone out because of the choppy seas with waves of between 6 to 9 feet.
While the temperature will drop by Monday night to 20 degree Celsius, it will get warmer on Tuesday at between 30 to 35 degree Celsius.
