Sharjah: Bee'ah, the Sharjah Environment Company, has launched the School of Environment, an initiative designed to help school teachers coach pupils on environmental responsibility.
The new initiative, which is endorsed by the Sharjah Educational Zone and sponsored by Dana Gaz, was launched at the International Education Exhibition yesterday.
The initiative was in response to the outcomes of a survey conducted by Bee'ah, in which 98 per cent of the teachers said they lacked the facilities and tools to create environmental awareness among the students, including activities and visual teaching aids. The teachers also voiced their need for training and workshops.
Khalid Al Huraimel, Director General of Bee'ah, said the programme will be implemented in 145 public and private schools all over Sharjah. Each teacher will be given an ID card and can access the school's website and select what is suitable for their own needs to create a specific educational programme, which is tailormade for each subject, Al Huraimel told Gulf News.
This is in line with Bee'ah's education and outreach plans through launching campaigns to target all segments of society, he said, adding that parents will be included in the next stages of the programme.
The first stage of the campaign targets teachers and educators, but the next step would be to directly target students, who can in turn educate their families and give recommendations.
Online interface
Bee'ah School of Environment is a comprehensive bilingual (English and Arabic) education programme consisting of fun and interactive environmental activities and lessons that aims to reach over 100,000 students.
Bee'ah created an online digital interface for teachers to access detailed lesson plans that are designed to educate children about the environment, and these lessons can be integrated into the existing curricula.
