Abu Dhabi: The root cause of the miseries of Indian workers in the UAE originates from the problematic recruitment process in India. Keeping this in mind, the Indian Embassy has proposed an online system to control the process, a senior official said.

"The Indian Embassy has submitted a proposal to the Indian government to implement online attestation of job contracts to avoid fake contracts", said Dr K. Ellangovan, Counsellor, Community Welfare, at the Indian Embassy here.

Currently, the job contracts of Indian workers carrying the passports with ‘Emigration Clearance Required' stamp [those who have not passed matriculation] have to be attested by the Indian Protector of Emigrants [an Indian authority] and the Indian Embassy, he said in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Fake contracts

But the unscrupulous agents make separate [fake] contracts for the above mentioned two authorities to get around the rules and regulations, Ellangovan said. "But, at the moment there is no system to detect the discrepancy between the contracts submitted with the authorities, so the embassy has made a plan to introduce an online attestation system which will stop fake contracts".

Proposal

The proposal is under the consideration of Government of India, he said. "When the system is in place, the employers and recruitment agencies do not need to visit the embassy to apply for the attestation of documents for the recruitment", the Counsellor said.

"We are in touch with the UAE Ministry of Labour also in this regard", he said.

After the approval from two Indian authorities, the employer submits the job contract of the workers with the ministry, which will be the relevant document to refer, if any disputes arises, he explained.

"We are trying to make a mechanism to ensure that those required contracts are the same and no fake documents have been submitted to evade the law," Ellangovan said.
