Kalba: At least six kindergarten pupils at a government school here have taken ill from suspected food poisoning in Kalba city, an official said on Wednesday.

Police and municipal officials in Kalba are investigating the suspected food-poisoning incident.

“Police and municipality collected samples from the tests carried out by the hospital and samples of food are being examined in the forensic laboratory,” a police spokesman told Gulf News.

School officials could not be reached on Wednesday.

The pupils were admitted to Kalba Hospital on Tuesday afternoon for treatment after eating unhygienic food and falling ill.

Obaid Saeed, Director of Kalba Hospital, told Gulf News that the hospital received six pupils around 4.30pm on Tuesday suffering from food poisoning symptoms.

Physical effects included diarrhoea, stomach pain and vomiting.

“We are investigating the case and the municipality took samples from the pupils,” Saeed said.

“At present, the pupils are out of danger,” he said.

The official said the suspected food poisoning cases were moderate and no pupils had to stay in hospital for a long time.

All of them were discharged from the hospital on Wednesday at around 10.30am.
