Ras Al Khaimah: An Asian worker was killed yesterday after his colleague misunderstood his signal that he had not finished his work.

A huge steel machine fell on the victim and crushed his head.

Colonel Ya'aqoub Al Hadad, who heads Al Digdaga Police Station, said the victim was busy at work when the accident took place.

He said the worker's colleague was doing some work at an upper level when the victim who was below asked him whether he was done with the job, the colleague gave a signal that he has not finished but this was misread. The colleague then turned on the machine which fell on the victim's head and killed him instantly.

The victim's colleagues rushed to his assistance and provided him with first aid, but in vain. The accident was then reported to the police who dispatched a vehicle and an ambulance to the scene.

The body was taken to the hospital where an autopsy was performed and the forensic report stated that there was no criminal intent in the accident.

Colonel Al Hadad said the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigations and the victim's body would be handed over to his family.

Meanwhile, seven people suffered serious and moderate injuries in 162 road accidents in Ras Al Khaimah during the weekend.
