Abu Dhabi: An Indian man was killed in a crash on the Musaffah road on Wednesday morning; shortly before the deadly Tarif highway accident killed five people.

"Around 8.30am on Wednesday, a minivan and a four wheel drive were involved in a crash, killing one person," a police official said.

The man has been identified as a 35-year-old Rama Rao, hailing from south India.

Initial investigations reveal that the minivan entered the main road without ensuring the road was clear of traffic, due to which the four-wheel drive crashed into the van, the official said.

According to the Ministry of interior, in 2009, not ensuring the road is clear led to 531 accidents, making it the third major cause of accidents across the country.

Not leaving enough distance between vehicles was identified as the major cause of accidents last year that led to 547 accidents.

Lack of concern for other drivers, was the second biggest cause, leading to 542 crashes.

It was about an hour after the Musaffah crash that a truck loaded with iron bars rammed into a restaurant in the Tarif highway, killing five and injuring 8 others.
