Abu Dhabi A 15-year-old boy drowned in his school's swimming pool on Wednesday morning, Abu Dhabi Police said. Although he was rescued by Abu Dhabi Police's emergency services, the teenager succumbed to his injuries that evening in the hospital.

The Egyptian boy was studying at the Al Manhal International Private School in Mushrif area.

The grade ten student knew how to swim, according to a school official, who requested anonymity. "He was pronounced dead at the hospital on Wednesday night. It was an unfortunate incident," he said.

"The incident happened around 8am on Wednesday. The boy had swallowed a lot of water. We recorded [a] feeble pulse after efforts by paramedics. He was then taken to Shaikh Khalifa Medical City for treatment, " an emergency services official said.

Police are investigating the incident.
