New medical courses are on offer to students in the UAE this autumn as the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland plans to offer two programmes in collaboration with the Royal Medical Institute.
The courses will be on offer at the Knowledge Village (KV) in Dubai from October.
The new facility is aimed at both students who want a career in medicine and practising healthcare professionals like doctors, nurses, specialists, technicians and administrators, who wish to develop and extend their management knowledge and skills.
The new facility at Bloc 19 in KV will offer a one-year Foundation Programme in Medicine and a two-year Masters in Healthcare Management. Those who pass the examinations at the end of the foundation programme will be admitted to the five-year medical course at the Medical University of Bahrain (MUB) or the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI.).
Eighty per cent of undergraduates currently studying in Dublin are international students. Philip Curtis, associate director of admissions and student services at the RCSI, said he expects to enrol about 30 students in the foundation programme in Dubai.
"We have about 150 UAE nationals studying in Dublin and lots more who do not have the chance to join because of lack of space so we hope the developments in the UAE will allow young talent to follow our programmes," said Curtis.
The deadline for applications is August 3.
"The faculty conducting training in the two courses will be from RCSI. Dublin has a long history of forging successful international partnerships.
"We have a proud tradition of promoting and maintaining the highest possible standards of medical excellence and I have no doubt that this tradition will be carried forward here in Dubai," added Curtis.
