As of this year, SAT Subject Tests will be mandatory for Non-Resident Indians (NRI) applying to technical institutions in India under the Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.

Admissions to these institutions are open to foreign nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and NRIs. Students who wish to secure a place through the DASA scheme have to register for the SAT Subject Tests by March 31 for the May 1 exam and May 5 to write the tests on June 5.

The Indian government's Ministry of Human Resource Development has entrusted the central coordination of admission under DASA scheme to the National Institute of Technology Karnataka. For the detailed admission procedure, online application and brochure for the current revised scheme are also available on the NITK website.
