Abu Dhabi: Khalifa University announced today the appointment of Dr Jay Noren as the new provost. Dr Noren has held senior academic and administrative positions in the United States. Having over 35 years of experience in academia, Dr Noren served as President of Wayne State University, Chancellor of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, Provost of the University of Nebraska, and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was also Professor in Wayne State’s School of Medicine.

Dr Noren received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and his master’s in Public Health from Harvard University in 1976. In addition, he is the recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship from the National Academy of Sciences, a Congressional Fellow for the US House of Representatives Appropriations and Budget Committees, and has acted as a Principal Investigator for the National Institute of Health Policy project, as well as other investigations into Health Policy and Coverage management

In his role as founding Dean of the College of Public Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Centre, Dr Noren was in charge of the design and implementation of the college organisation, recruitment of new faculty and staff, and the development of an expanded educational and research enterprise.

Dr Noren is a prolific author and has been published over 45 times in various publications and books including the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, the American Journal of Public Health and the New England Journal of Medicine.

“Dr Noren brings strong academic credentials and invaluable experience in research to Khalifa University. As Provost the University will continue to build capacity to deliver academic excellence to our students,” said Dr Tod Laursen, Khalifa University President.
