Dubai: A worker has been jailed for six months for kissing a waitress at a pub while he was under the influence of alcohol, ruled a court on Wednesday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 24-year-old Afghan worker of sexually molesting the Filipina waitress at a hotel pub although he pleaded not guilty and claimed he was intoxicated and didn't realise what had happened.
Prosecutors charged 24-year-old R.B. with molesting the Filipina waitress and consuming alcohol.
Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir, who pronounced Wednesday's verdict, also fined the accused Dh1,000 for consuming alcohol. R.B. will be deported after the completion of his jail term.
"I am guilty and I did have liquor… as for the charge of sexual molestation, I am not guilty," argued R.B. when he defended himself in court.
The primary verdict is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
