Dubai: Four Filipinos will each spend 25 years in jail and pay a fine of Dh50,000 after a court on Sunday found them guilty of trafficking 0.185 grammes of methamphetamine.

Prosecution records said an anti-narcotics police team plotted a sting operation and arrested the four accused, three men and a woman, red-handed selling the drugs to an informant in Al Satwa. The Dubai Court of First Instance handed the 23-year-old Filipina, D.A, and her male compatriots, 22-year-old clerk J.P., 25-year-old worker R.C., and 25-year-old salesman L.S., life sentence each and slapped them a hefty fine.

Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir convicted them of possessing 0.185 grammes of methamphetamine for trading purposes. D.A. and L.S. were also charged with consuming the drug. The quartet pleaded not guilty when they appeared in court earlier. Two Filipinos, A.V. and N.G. were fined Dh1,000 each for failing to report to the police that the accused were selling and consuming drugs. Presiding Judge Mounir said the four traffickers will be deported.

An Emirati policeman claimed in his statement: "During questioning, the Filipina admitted that she was the one who arranged with the informant to sell the drugs."
