Dubai: Dubai Police arrested three Russian nationals within eight hours after they stole half a million dollars from a company's safe and assaulted a woman in the process.

Brig Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said that on Tuesday the police received a phone call from a woman claiming to have been beaten, shocked with a stun gun and then tied to a chair with telephone wire by two men who then proceeded to steal half a million dollars from the company's main safe.

An investigation team was instantly sent to the location indicated by the victim.

Contradictory statements

Al Mansouri said that by questioning the company's staff, the investigation team was able to identify one employee out of the six who gave contradicting statements. When asked about his whereabouts the day before — when the money had been deposited in the company's safe — the employee gave false information.

When the CID interrogated the man, Al Mansouri said that the employee testified that he had met the two men and planned the crime. He told the police that he did not know where they lived but gave them the address of the café where they had met. A team was dispatched to search for them, using the female victim's description, and they were found in a hotel near the cafe, eight hours after the woman's report.

They were caught dividing the money between them, and keeping the employee's share aside. The three confessed and have been transferred to the public prosecution, Al Mansouri said.
