Dubai: A 19-year-old student has admitted that he obtained Dh45 which his two associates stole from a Brazilian flight attendant after she withdrew cash from an ATM.

"I am guilty … I possessed the money," said the Emirati student when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday.

The suspect's father was spotted walking towards the jury's bench and addressing Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout saying: "Your honour, the lady has waived her complaint against my son."

The 32-year-old attendant testified: "I was walking back home after having withdrawn cash from an ATM … I noticed three men walking behind me. Surprisingly, one of them snatched my purse. I fell on the floor when I resisted him. However, he took it away from me and I saw him running away, along with his associates. Then I informed the police."

A verdict will be heard on February 2.
