Sharjah: Police have arrested a Bangladeshi man for allegedly killing his friend in Al Tarfana area, within 10 hours of the murder.

A forensic report revealed that the victim was strangled with a belt and beaten with a sharp tool on the head. The man's skull was fractured. He also received several stab wounds to the abdomen and chest.

A senior official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News on Sunday that the suspect was arrested at Dubai International Airport on Friday as he tried to leave the country.

The Operations Control Room at Sharjah Police said they received a call at 11am last Thursday about a body discovered in a residential villa that belonged to an Emirati family.

Police arrived at the scene and found that the victim was covered with a bloodstained blanket in his living quarters.

Driver

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) identified the victim as Zaher M., a Bangladeshi national who was in his forties and worked as a driver for the Emirati family.

During the investigation the CID discovered that the victim lived in a room next to the suspect, who also worked for the family.

Based on the evidence at the crime scene, police were able to identify the suspect — M.F., a Bangladeshi national — who several witnesses saw entering the victim's room.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the victim was a friend who had deceived him into paying Dh12,000 for a visa. He said he was making the payments in installments. M.F. said he confronted the victim when he discovered that his friend wanted to leave the country with his money.

A heated argument followed, which led to the victim slapping the suspect.

According to M.F., he then lost his temper and stabbed the victim repeatedly.

The case has been transferred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
