Sharjah: Police have arrested five juveniles and two Pakistani men in separate incidents for breaking into parked vehicles and stealing their contents.

The gang of juveniles, between 14 and 17 years old, consisted of three Arab nationals and two others who did not have legal documents.

All five members were accused of breaking into a vehicle and stealing items such as cash and a mobile phone.

"An Arab woman filed a complaint and said [that] her husband's car was broken into and that all of the valuables that were left inside the car were stolen, which included Dh10,000 and a BlackBerry phone, in addition to other items," a senior official at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sharjah Police, said.

He said that in 2009, 176 complaints had been lodged about vehicles being broken into and their contents stolen, adding that most of the thefts were carried out by juveniles and illegal residents.

Police, however, were soon able to identify and arrest the suspects during the investigation. The juveniles confessed to stealing the vehicle's contents.

In another incident, police also arrested two Pakistanis who were allegedly involved in stealing the contents from 25 cars parked in various areas of Sharjah.

The suspects confessed to carrying out the thefts and the case has been transferred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
