Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Interior's National Committee for combating human trafficking has discussed procedures for preventing the problem.

In its fifth meeting, the committee also discussed ways of improving public awareness about the phenomenon and efforts to curb it.

Chaired by Colonel Ahmad Mohammad Nakhira, Director of the Ministry's Department of Human Rights and Head of the Training Plan Committee, the committee underscored the role of the police in the detection and investigation of human trafficking crimes.

The role of the police in protecting victims was also touched upon during the meeting.

Colonel Nakhira underlined the ministry's keenness to implement the UAE strategy in fighting the phenomenon in accordance with international procedures.
