Dubai: Five female convicts have been accused of exchanging blows in Dubai Central Jail's women's section after a fight broke out over priority to use the phone, a court heard yesterday.

Prosecutors accused four female convicts — a British woman and three Nigerians — of inflicting a five per cent permanent disability in the leg and ankle of a 25-year-old Indian convict.

The Indian, T.S., has also been charged with slapping one of the Nigerian women, 42-year-old O.S.

"I am not guilty. I didn't assault her. She claimed I injured her leg, but she had an earlier leg injury. I ask the jury to bring her health file from the Central Jail to confirm whether she had the injury from before," argued O.S. when she defended herself before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

"I am guilty," contended T.S. when she appeared before Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad. The remaining suspects pleaded innocent.
