Dubai: A Nepalese worker is to be jailed for three months for groping a woman's breast in public while he was heavily drunk, a court ruled yesterday.

The Dubai Court of First Instance also fined the 38-year-old defendant Dh1,000 for consuming liquor.

Pronouncing yesterday's judgment, Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad said the accused will be deported after serving his sentence.

"I was heavily drunk and I was unaware and didn't know of what I did…," said the defendant when he defended himself in courtroom four.

Prosecutors accused the defendant, R.K., of consuming liquor and molesting a 38-year-old Filipina while she was heading to the Dubai Metro station with her husband.

"I am not guilty on the molestation charge… but I consumed liquor," R.K. said.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said R.K. drank three cans of beer before groping the Filipina E.D.

The woman testified the incident happened while she was walking towards the Metro station with her husband on Rigga Street.

"My husband was three steps ahead of me and suddenly the accused blocked my way and groped me… and continued walking. Immediately I shouted at him. When my husband turned around, he spotted the accused running away. My husband chased him and stopped him before we called the police," she said in her prosecution statement.
