Dubai: A detainee has been jailed for setting his bed ablaze in his detention centre after a doctor refused to give him the medicine that he requested during a hospital visit.
The Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the 21-year-old Emirati detainee to three months after Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad convicted him of deliberately setting his bed and bedcover on fire, and endangering the lives of policemen and other detainees at Al Rashidiya Police Station.
According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said A.A. intentionally set fire to his bed and its cover with a lighter. He was also accused of damaging public property.
Incident
An Emirati policeman testified that the incident happened after A.A. and his cellmate were brought back from a visit to Rashid Hospital. The judgment is subject to appeal within 15 days.
