Dubai: A cleaner has admitted that he stole Dh800 from an employee at the Ruler's Court, a court heard on Tuesday.

Prosecutors accused the 25-year-old Indian cleaner of allegedly stealing Dh800 in cash from an Emirati employee at the Ruler's Court.

The suspect, J.O., pleaded guilty and confessed to his charge when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday.

The employee, Y.A., testified that the incident happened on March 3.

"I realised that Dh800 was missing from my drawer after I checked it. I reported the matter to the police. Following preliminary investigations, police unveiled that the suspect stole my money. The suspect job is to clean the employees' desks after they leave work," Y.A. claimed before the prosecutor who questioned him.

Prosecution records show the defendant admitted that he stole the money. In his confession before prosecutors, J.O. claimed that after he cleaned the desks he opened one of the drawers and stole the money. Then he claimed that he sent the money through his friends to his family in India.

A verdict will be heard next month.
