Sharjah: An Indian man killed himself using the mechanism of a lift he was responsible for maintaining.
The badly mutilated body of the 30-year-old was found in the lift pit of a 43-storey residential building along with a suicide note in Sharjah's Buhaira Corniche area on June 6.
Police said the man tied a rope around his neck before stepping inside the lift pit and tying the other end of the rope to the bottom of the lift.
He was believed to have died instantly on June 4 when a tenant took the lift up. But unknown to building residents his mangled body remained hanging in the shaft for three days and kept on being crushed each time the lift went up and down.
In his suicide note, the man said he killed himself because his company had not paid him for six months and that his family in India was facing financial hardships.
