DUBAI A 34-year-old Iranian man who posed as a police officer was on Wednesday charged with raping a 42-year-old Filipina sales coordinator in his French cluster apartment in International City.

Court records show the two agreed to have dinner at a restaurant after they met through a chat website a few months ago.

The woman asked the defendant, who introduced himself as an Emirati criminal investigations officer, to help her cousin obtain a visa to the country.

“He called me again in October,” the victim said. “He told me he had a solution to my cousin’s problem and picked me up from my workplace that night in his car.”

The suspect then told the woman they were going to his cousin’s house to have dinner. She said she first rejected the offer. “He told me that his cousin had a Filipina friend who wanted to meet me and that they had already ordered dinner for us.

Use of force

“I became suspicious after he pulled out the apartment key from his pocket. I asked him if it was really his cousin’s apartment.

“But he grabbed my shirt and pulled me inside the apartment.”

The woman said that the defendant then forced her out of her clothes and raped her.

“I yelled at him as he was putting his clothes back on. But he, speaking in the local dialect, told me to shut up and raised his hand with the intent of striking me.” The suspect then dropped the woman home.

“She came in at around 9pm,” the victim’s flat-mate said, “I told her to call the police.”

Police traced the number plates of the car (reported by the victim) back to an advertising company.

The police were able to identify the suspect after the victim pinpointed the man’s picture on the company’s employee list. He was arrested shortly after.

The courts will hear the case again at the end of the month.
