Dubai: Two drivers, who said hello to a woman in English, have been referred to a court on charges of breaching the woman’s modesty.

The 29-year-old Filipina claims that the two Pakistanis, 25-year-old M.O. and 33-year-old A.M., met her in Hor Al Anz and spoke to her while one of them held her hand.

According to the chargesheet, prosecutors have charged A.M. with breaching the woman’s privacy by saying hello with the intention to stalk her. M.O. was charged with molestation.

The defendants, who are on bail, strongly deny the accusations and entered a not guilty plea when they showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

The suspects told presiding judge Wajdi Al Menyawi that they had never ever seen the woman before and also contended that they were at work at 2am on August 11 when the alleged incident took place. The drivers claimed this could be corroborated by their company timesheets.

The Filipina alleged that A.M. approached her first and said hello but she ignored him.

“Then M.O. came to me and said hello... he then tried to grab my hand, but I pulled it away quickly and shouted at him,” she said. “The two men absconded immediately.”

Records state that the claimant identified M.O. at the police lineup.

A judgement will be heard on November 28.
