Reverse unnecessary charges

A sales representative at First Gulf Bank (FGB) explained to me the benefits of having a credit card, including that for the first year, it was free of annual charges and had other benefits, such as valet parking. Additionally, I was told there would be no conditions when availing of the card’s benefits.

I used the valet parking at the airport for one hour in March 2014, and for a second time at the same place in April 2014, for an hour.

I did not get any statement from FGB till June 2014, when it showed up charges of Dh300 for airport parking, a late payment fee of Dh250, as well as insurance and credit shield charges without my knowledge.

I filed a complaint to reverse the charges and was informed that I should have made a purchase of Dh500 before using the benefits, to which I responded that I would make a purchase if they reverse the charges. However, they said considering the circumstances, I would now have to make a purchase of Dh10.000 and only then would the airport parking charges be reversed.

I am very disappointed and request FGB to please cancel these charges without any additional conditions.

Cancelled connection

My complaint is regarding my postpaid mobile USB modem line on which etisalat claims a Dh881 outstanding balance. On March 29, 2014, I went to etisalat’s main branch in Sharjah to cancel this USB modem line, along with my landline and television package. For the procedure, etisalat collected Dh476, and I have a credit card transaction slip as proof. This comprised Dh92 for the USB modem and the rest was for the landline. My television setup box was also surrendered along with the USB modem.

Apparently, the staff member did not cancel the USB modem line and only the landline and television package were cancelled. She heard that I was leaving the country, as my residence visa was in the process of being cancelled, and confirmed that she had cancelled all accounts.

I left the country on April 9, 2014, upon the cancellation of my residence visa. I then returned to the UAE on a new residence visa on December 2, 2014. I am now told that the USB modem was not cancelled and therefore they kept charging me every month for the same, including a penalty, which now stands at Dh881.

I request the intervention of Gulf News to urge etisalat to reverse this unjustified claim that was caused due to the negligence of their own staff.

Sharjah

The management of etisalat responds:

The case is resolved and closed. The final outcome: Dh881.23 has been refunded. The customer has been updated but he said he needed compensation for his case. A ‘Save’ offer will be applied after the customer pays the pending amount.

Mr Shanbog V. P. R. responds:

Yes, this case has been resolved thanks to Gulf News’ intervention.
