There is a lack of parking spaces in Abu Dhabi — and abandoned taxis are adding to the problem. Gulf News reader Aditya Chakravarty said: "Getting a parking spot in the Salam Street area is like hitting the jackpot!" Image Credit: Aditya Chakravarty/Gulf News Reader

I would like to bring to the notice of the public and the concerned authorities, the problems caused by taxis parked in various parts of Abu Dhabi.

I have been living on Salam Street for the past 13 years and have noticed this particular problem occurring over the past six months. I feel the photograph I clicked describes the situation better than words.

The problems caused by such cars, if listed, may be endless. The taxi in the photograph was parked in front of my building after 8pm.

I have noticed that after 6pm, taxi drivers just abandon their vehicles in available parking spaces. The main issue is unavailability of parking for residents, due to these vehicles.

Getting a parking spot in the Salam Street area is like hitting the jackpot!

Moreover, as these cars are left unattended for a long period of time, they get dusty and spoil the image of our beautiful and lively city.

Furthermore, garbage — including soft drink cans, juice boxes and bird excreta — lie unnoticed on top of these vehicles.

I am not the only one facing this situation. In fact, I am sure many people around the emirate face the same problem.

The authorities need to take immediate action against such people and strictly monitor the situation. I hope this community report will make a difference.
