Young boys need as much attention from parents as young girls, according to Gulf News reader Sarfaraz Hassan. Every day, I see a group of young boys in my neighbourhood. They chat, have soft drinks, throw the empty bottles wherever they like and share cigarettes.

A few are always busy text messaging, others wear trendy clothes and have ‘funky' hair. This is their daily routine and lifestyle.

The nearby substation and compound walls in Hamdan Street, Abu Dhabi, have become their notice boards and I often feel that what they write is reflective of their state of mind.

I feel that young boys need the same attention as girls. Not all boys are tough and able to handle complicated situations.

Over the past few weeks, we have read about the case in which a four-year-old was molested. It comes as a wake-up call for parents.

When I was young, I was told that the home is a child's first school and a mother is the first teacher.

Parents should watch the environment of their child — not like a police officer, but like a teacher.
