Positive change: According to Gulf News reader Agniyah Shaikh, the efforts of the municipal authorities in Sharjah are evident. She said: "The amount of garbage... has reduced considerably, when compared to the amount at the corniche earlier." Image Credit: Agniyah Shaikh/Gulf News Reader

Thank you Gulf News for the Community Report platform. The results of such reports are obvious from pictures I took recently.

We were facing two issues in Sharjah — one was that temporary wooden fences in Rolla were being used as a means for inexpensive advertising, and secondly, there was a large amount of filth and garbage along Buheira Corniche.

Both these issues were raised a few months ago, and reporting about them has finally shown positive results.

The fences and boards have been repainted and advertisements are not allowed to be posted there any more. Furthermore, the authorities have started making permanent fences.

The amount of garbage and filth has also reduced considerably, when compared to its previous extent at the corniche.

Yet, in my opinion, residents and visitors must be aware of these issues in order to work together towards a cleaner environment. It's not just the job of the municipal workers to keep the gardens, corniche and the streets clean. Each individual, each family must take up the responsibility in their own way. Charity begins at home, but so does cleanliness!
