Having a best friend is a great thing, but it’s even better when you marry that best friend.

Gulf News readers Vidya Rajeev and Rajeev Rathisan are both 32 years old and were happy to recount stories of their friendship that dates back 16 years.

Vidya told the newspaper: “We lived in the same neighbourhood and had common friends. We became really good friends around 1999, we used to study together, sneak out sometimes for a ride on his motorcycle or for a street snack.”

Rathisan added: “She even used to help me complete my projects and homework”.

Five years into their friendship Vidya realised that she would love to spend the rest of her life with her best friend and expressed this to him. A few years later they got married and moved to the UAE in 2007.

Rathisan who works as a purchase executive at a car company in Dubai feels that the greatest thing about his best friend has always been that she was easy to talk to and always understood him.

He said: “Even to this day I can tell Vidya anything, and she listens calmly without judging.”
