I took this photograph casually when on a trip to Ajman. The sandwich maker from whom we had ordered shawarmas was found to be handling the food without wearing any gloves.

It was a shock as I had a feeling that authorities kept a watch on unhygienic practices, especially in eateries.

In these times, as airborne sicknesses are on the rise, people who handle food must ensure that they are practising good hygiene and keep away from making direct contact with the food.

The same food is eaten by people and it is easy for the bacteria and germs to spread like wildfire.

I have noted a few other cafeterias and restaurants, located in inner alleys, where the cooks are careless about hygiene. However, cafeterias that are located on main highways, such as the one I went to between Sharjah and Ajman, should pay more attention to these serious issues.

I hope the authorities look into the matter urgently.
