Pico lost his owner recently and is in need of a loving home. Gulf News reader Sylvia Samuel wrote: "He does not understand that [his master] has died and is not coming back to take care of him." Image Credit: Sylvia Samuel/Gulf News Reader

Pico is a male beagle crossbreed and is approximately five years old. He used to have a home and a loving owner in Al Mizhar in Dubai.

One day, for some reason, there was commotion and chaos in the house and the area proceeded to be filled with people — an ambulance was there, too. There were many strange voices and smells.

No one noticed Pico, so he went quietly to the back of the house to observe the comings and goings.

After a long while, when everyone had left the house, everything went back to normal. As Pico entered his home, he realised that the old man he identified as his master was not there any more. As it was late in the evening, he lay down by the front door and waited for him to return.

But time passed and there were no signs of his beloved master coming home. Pico went with no food and his near-full water bowl was now empty. Four days passed and he started to get very weak.

One day, he heard people and strange voices at the front gate. He was delighted to hear people but at the same time apprehensive, as it was not a voice he recognised. Pico was taken away from his home to another place.

This is Pico's story of the tragic events that changed his life forever. He was at a kennel for three days and no one came to claim him. We heard of his story and got him out so he could have a second chance.

He does not understand that the old man has died and is not coming back to take care of him. We think he is very confused right now and lost without his beloved master. At the moment, his behaviour is very quiet and he is extremely shy — there is no light in his eyes.

With the right family and understanding, Pico can be a great, happy companion once again. He really is a sweetheart.

If anyone is able to give Pico a loving home and a new beginning, please contact Montserrat on 050 7706711 or me on 050 468 1102.
