Dubai

I would like to report extreme negligence occurring in an area of Dubai.

I see people risking their lives every day while trying to cross the busy roads in the Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) area. There is no pedestrian crossing near the JLT Metro Station. Due to this, there has been an incident in the past where a woman lost her life while trying to cross the road.

Despite this loss, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has not shown any action for the same. I reached out to them, too, and was told by their agent that they would follow up internally and revert within three days. However, they never got back to me.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate the services that the residents have received due to the RTA, but there seems to be something terribly lacking in some areas around Dubai.

I have personally witnessed an instance where a colleague was almost hit by a speeding car when he was trying to cross the road to get to work. After waiting for so long for a crossing, I decided to reach out to Gulf News hoping for some help. Perhaps the RTA will then understand the importance of the situation and hopefully install a pedestrian bridge or crossing in this area.

I also notified RTA of some other things that needed their attention, such as the street lights of a particular zone that weren’t being turned on and I also asked them to install benches at bus stops in remote areas where there’s no relief from the scorching sun. I was told all of this was being considered as a part of RTA’s long-term plans.

I love living in Dubai because of what the authorities have done for this emirate. I would appreciate if the RTA would consider my request and take the necessary actions to make this area safer for pedestrians, especially those using the Dubai Metro.
