Manama: A Saudi woman has been sentenced to six years in jail for supporting the Daesh terror group and pushing for the release of terrorists.
The court in the Saudi capital Riyadh found the woman, who was not named, guilty of pledging allegiance to the leader of the terror group, producing posters and video clips calling for the release of terrorists and providing material to a dissident to incite unrest.
The defendant used an account on the microblog Twitter to express support for the terror attack on a security establishment and to claim that the Saudi state was not adhering to the Sharia, Saudi daily Al Riyadh reported on Thursday.
She also printed posters calling for sedition and posted them on a mosque and on lamp-posts, the daily added.
However, the defendant later said that she regretted her acts and her claims and that she wanted to repent.
The court, upon hearing the pleadings by the lawyer, decided to halve the sentence and the defendant will be jailed for three years.
She will however be banned from traveling abroad for six years starting from her release from jail.
