Manama: Qatar's Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has urged Qatari nationals and residents to avail of an ongoing vaccination campaign to protect themselves and their children from the H1N1 virus.

The campaign, launched on Tuesday at the primary health care centres and some hospitals, will also target the seasonal flu and is available to all segments of society, including children from the age of six months up to 13 years, teen-agers, adults as well as pregnant women, regardless of their stage of pregnancy.

The vaccination will also cover individuals who are healthy and people who suffer from chronic diseases, Qatar News Agency said.

The SCH said the side effects of the vaccination were very limited and often appeared in the form of a slight pain and swelling or redness at the place of needle prick that might be accompanied by a slight heat and simple body pain in about 5 percent to 10 percent of the vaccinated people.

The SCH on Tuesday started the vaccination of around 1650 students and 150 teachers of the Pakistani education centre.
