Non-communicable diseases challenge, issues of health systems development, sustainable environment and healthy lifestyle are high on the agenda in Oman as World Health Organisation (WHO) embarks on the Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) with the Ministry of Health (MOH) here.

The CCS is a WHO framework that enhances the existing collaborative programmes and technical support by focusing on country needs, mobilising expertise and local capacity. The comprehensive strategy document will reflect WHO's medium term vision (four to six years) for technical cooperation with Oman and define a strategic framework for working in and with the country.

Starting from Saturday, a nine-day mission comprising of the WHO staff and MOH officials will hold consultations in Oman. Deliberations will be held with key stakeholders within the MOH, other national authorities concerned with health and development, UN agencies, non-government organisations and academia. Consequently a draft on the principal components of the WHO strategic agenda for Oman will be drawn out.
