Tropical hurricane Gonu has become a tropical depression, with less than 63 km per hour wind speed, after hitting the Iranian coast across the Gulf of Oman and has been giving heavy rain in the area below.

The span of rain is expected to expand to the UAE as weather men expected heavy to moderate showers in some parts of the UAE. Strong chances of rain exist in Dubai on Thursday and Friday, according to the forecast of the UAE Meteorological Department.

The hurricane, which was the most powerful storm in the Arabian Sea, had lashed UAE and Oman causing heavy material and infrastructural damage.

Thousands of people were evacuated by the emergency and security agencies.

Civic and relief agencies have been pumping out water from different localities in Kalba, Fujairah, Khor Fakkan, Sharm, and other surrounding area.

Meteorologist across the world on Thursday described Gonu's transformation into a tropical depression as dramatic.

“It has suddenly lost its power, probably the dry and hot air of the Arabian Peninsula played the key role init,'' said a senior meteorologist.

The conditions on Thursday were partly cloudy over scattered area with hazy.

Chances of thunderstorm in some areas also continued to exist, according to the weather forecast report for the next 48 hours.

The pressure of high speed winds also subsided as most of the time winds were blowing at a speed of 12 to 18 knots from the South-East to North-East direction. It is, however, still quite windy over the Gulf of Oman.

The weathermen said weather would be hot and hazy in general with chance of blowing dust over scattered areas in the emirates in the next couple of days.

Low and towering clouds would be visible with chances of thunderstorm and rain.

The sea would, however, continue to be rough with five to six feet high waves.
