Dubai: Oman’s Sultan Qaboos issued a royal decree on Sunday granting Omani citizenship to 26 people.

In January, 84 obtained Omani nationality as per as a royal decree, bringing the total number of those who have obtained the Omani citizenship so far this year to 110 people.

Foreigners have to meet a number of conditions to obtain Omani nationality, including a continued 20 years stay in Oman, or 15 years if the person is married to an Omani, according to the Omani Nationality Law.

It’s mandatory for a foreigner to know Arabic, both written and spoken, to obtain the nationality.

He or she should also have a clean record that has not convicted in any crimes.

The applicant should also have a legal source of income that suffices the family expenses.

Moreover, he or she has to state in writing his wish to surrender his previous citizenship after he proves that his action is legal in accordance with his country’s law.
