Manama: Kuwaiti parliament's new strong religious orientations were clear during the oath-taking ceremony when several lawmakers added prayers and invocations.
A similar move in the opening ceremony of the 2009 parliament sparked anger among liberal MPs who protested against adding prayers or religious overtones to the uniform oath.
At least 22 lawmakers in the 50-seat parliament elected on February 2 are overtly Islamists and belong to Islamist groups.
They have already said that they would seek to amend laws to make them more in line with Islamic values and to boost reforms. Islamists won in the three elections held in Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt since October.
