Manama: Kuwait's Zakat House said that it had set up 27 donation centers to receive donations and calculate zakat, the compulsory giving of a set proportion of one's wealth to charity, throughout Ramadan.
The centres will also provide gold weighing services and will offer brochures and pamphlets to increase awareness on different issues dealing with zakat, one of the five pillars of Islam.
Abdul Latif Al Busairi, head of donation centers, said that the centres would be easily accessible to donors and people keen on zakat.
Muslims boost their spiritual activities during Ramadan, the month during which they abstain from eating, drinking and sensual pleasure from sunrise until sunset.
Giving to the needy and poor is highly regarded in Islam, but gains special significance during Ramadan.
Ramadan is expected to start on August 1 and end on August 29.
