Manila: A 46-year-old housewife from Metro Manila’s Las Pinas placed a bet on the ATM number of her husband and hit the P270 million (Dh22.5 million) grand prize of a government-run agency’s numbers game, a senior official said.

Her husband’s ATM number — 01-06-08-27-30-35 — beat the 28.9 million odds of winning the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s (PCSO’s) lottery draw of six numbers from 1 to 55, said PCSO general manager Jose Ferdinand Rojas II.

“It was the fist time that an ATM card number won PCSO’s lottery,” said Rojas, adding that former winners revealed betting on birthdays, numbers equivalent to spelling of names, and phone numbers.

The winner spent P80 (nearly Dh7) to bet on the ATM card of her husband, a 60-year-old carpenter.

“She claimed her victory was an answered prayer after 15 years of dedicated betting on PCSO’s lottery,” said Rojas.

The wife allotted the jackpot money in separate bank accounts for her five children, close relatives, herself, and her husband, said Rojas.

A 60-year-old Filipino based in the US won PCSO’s P741.17 million (Dh61.76 million) jackpot in 2010.
