Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Thursday received the President of South Korea Park Geun-hye.

Upon arrival at Al Mushrif Palace, The Korean president accompanied by Shaikh Mohammad was accorded an official reception ceremony in which the national anthems of the two countries were played. Later, Park inspected the guard of honour in the yard of the palace, and a 21 canon salute was accorded in honour of the guest.

During discussions, Shaikh Mohammad stressed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has maintained strong relations with Korea, and added these relations enjoy the attention of both countries’ leaderships. Shaikh Mohammad said both the UAE and South Korea are witnessing development and growth in many sectors because of a desire to implement their vision through massive and vital projects, as well as medical, education, cultural and trade partnerships.

Shaikh Mohammad said that Park’s visit reflects the depth of relations between both nations and their peoples.

Welcoming the Korean President, he expressed hope that the visit will open a new page in the constantly developing bilateral relations between the two nations. He said the ties are based on a vision shared by both countries’ leaders in order to bolster cooperation and achieve the mutual interest of the UAE and South Korea.

Shaikh Mohammad and Park spoke about current bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, education, investment, nuclear energy and health care, and discussed ways to further boost levels of cooperation in these areas. They also discussed recent regional and international developments and exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual concern. They stressed that restoring security and stability to the region is key for achieving sustainable development and progress. They reaffirmed the importance of collaborative efforts in thwarting terrorism and violence, and working towards peace and security.

Park said she was happy to visit the UAE and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in various sectors for the mutual interests of both countries. She added that Korea is looking forward to further enhancing cooperation and coordination with the UAE in the area of economy, development and trade.

Present during the meeting were Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and a number of shaikhs, ministers, and Korean officials.
