Dubai: A man has been accused of providing drugs to his woman friend, who consumed them in his car, before he dropped off her body at a hospital after she died of an overdose.

The 33-year-old Emirati jobless man and his countrywoman were said to have spent two days in the man’s car when he provided her with drugs and mind-altering substances in August.

The man drove towards a private hospital where, according to records, he left his friend’s body in front of the entrance shortly after she lost consciousness after consuming drugs in his car.

Drug officers identified the 33-year-old man from his car’s number plate that was spotted on the hospital’s surveillance cameras and apprehended him in Al Quoz.

Medical reports confirmed that the woman died of a drug overdose.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of providing banned substances to his dead friend, consuming drugs and possessing Pregabalin [abanned substance].

The suspect pleaded not guilty and denied providing his country woman with drugs or being responsible for her death when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the suspect facilitated the dead woman with drugs, consumed morphine, codeine, oxazipam and tramadol. He was also charged with possessing Pregabalin for his personal consumption.

The 33-year-old denied providing drugs to the woman and also denied consuming morphine, codeine, oxazipam and tramadol.

When he defended himself before presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi, he admitted that he possessed Pregabalin for consumption.

His lawyer asked presiding judge Al Shamsi to hear prosecution witnesses when the court reconvenes on December 21.

An anti-narcotics lieutenant claimed to prosecutors that the hospital’s management reported to the police that a woman had been left dead at the entrance due to a drug overdose.

“Surveillance cameras revealed that the suspect had stopped his vehicle in front of the hospital’s entrance, dropped her off and then drove away. Doctors confirmed that the woman died of a drug overdose as she had signs of needle marks on her arm. The suspect was apprehended beside his house in Al Quoz. During questioning, he claimed that they had spent two days in his car driving around Dubai and that they did not have money to stay in a hotel. He claimed that she had a medical prescription and used the drugs … but when she fainted he drove her to the hospital. He denied providing her with any drugs,” the lieutenant testified to prosecutors.
