Dubai: A jobless man has been jailed for three years for attacking a mentally-challenged youngster and his father with a sharp tool because the son walked into the man’s house without permission.

The 24-year-old Emirati man, A.M., was said to have attacked the 38-year-old Indian father, A.A., and his son, S.A., with a knife despite the father having apologised for his son’s behaviour.

Last year, the Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced A.M. in absentia to five years in jail for attacking the father and his son and causing them 25 and two per cent permanent disability, respectively.

The accused surrendered himself and requested a retrial, during which he was jailed for three years on Wednesday.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the crime weapon will be confiscated.

The Emirati pleaded not guilty and denied his charges.

The father said A.M. stabbed him and his son in front of their residence in Al Diwan in November 2012.

“My son chased the defendant’s brother into their residence because he disturbed him. The angry defendant attacked us with a knife because S.A. entered his residence without permission,” the father claimed.

A policeman said a trespassing incident was reported to them.

“We rushed to the vicinity and I saw the father standing in front of the defendant’s house speaking to the family. Shortly after that the defendant and five others arrived in a car… A.M. was armed with a knife. Six men chased the father and I could not run behind them and stop them. I saw the defendant attacking A.A. … then I arrived and tried to protect the father. The defendant rushed towards the victim’s house and ran behind S.A. and stabbed him in his hand.

“According to records, A.A. apologised to the defendant’s family because his mentally-challenged son entered their residence. The father walked in behind his son to take him out. Despite the apology, the defendant attacked the father and his son,” added the policeman.

Wednesday’s judgement remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
