Dubai: A maid has been cleared of sexually abusing the two-year-old son of her sponsor.

The two-year-old Emirati boy’s mother had alleged that she discovered the 32-year-old Ethiopian maid molesting her son when she once entered her room and saw them both undressed in bed in October 2013.

When she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance, the maid strongly rejected the mother’s claims and denied molesting or abusing the child.

The maid had also refuted prosecutors’ accusation that she groped the boy, undressed herself in front of him and made him touch her.

Citing lack of corroborated evidence, the presiding judge acquitted the maid of molesting the boy and abusing him sexually.

The mother also alleged that she realised that her son’s attitude had changed.

By the time the Emirati sponsor and his Moroccan wife had confirmed that the maid was constantly molesting their boy, according to records, the 32-year-old absconded.

The boy’s father reported the matter to the police in 2013 and the maid was apprehended in December 2016.

The Ethiopian pleaded not guilty and accused the sponsor of bringing in false and malicious claims against her.

“No I did not do that … that is not true,” she told the court.

The mother alleged to have seen for the first time her son undressed and sitting on the lap of the maid, who had allowed him to touch her uncovered top. “I scolded her and asked her why had she permitted my boy to touch her top … but she denied,” she testified.

Sunday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
